I've been needing to do this for a long time because Drupal 6 is so much nicer to work with. So over the weekend, i've finally upgraded this site from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6. This was done on a local test server. It wasn't a straightforward process and encountered a few minor errors but it all went well. Some issues on existing site were also fixed after upgrade (only noticed those issues while working on the upgrade).
So later tonight, this site is going offline while i transfer the spanking new site over.
I've documented the upgrade process so expect a tutorial to follow over the next few days.
I've also received a complimentary copy of Drupal Themes 6 from Packt Publishing, excellent timing and many thanks to Niraja for getting in touch and sending me a copy for review, which i hope will be up very soon. I can already tell you it's an excellent book as a reference guide to Drupal 6 theming. I highly recommend buying the book from Packt Publishing, at least some of the money goes to the Drupal Association.
EDITED (22:35pm):
Yippee! Upgrade complete... this site is now running Drupal 6. Only thing left to do is to upgrade the Gallery2 integration on this site
Just updated this site to Drupal 5.8. It seems everything is fine but as you can see from the tab blocks, it's broken. :(
Can't seem to pinpoint where it went wrong so will need to continue digging for clues. Bloody annoying when these little things happen as it really messes up the whole design since the tab really pulls it together. Oh! well i'm sure a fix is just around the corner. Better get some sleep for now... sigh!
UPDATE (30th July):
Sorry late posting (been busy) but just a quick note to say that Drupal 5.9 fixes all the issues encountered in this post. :) read more »
The past few days has been damn stressful. A server outrage on one of the server that hosted this site caused a corruption to the server file system. read more »
I have recently been playing around with a CSS framework called Blueprint 0.7.1. This framework was built around using a grid system and typography. Part of the experiment was to use my site to test it out. So far, it has been quite good as well as disappointing. It was supposed to ease the CSS development but when you add all the CSS files together there where more work to be done than to cut down on development time. read more »
