Installing uploadprogress on MAMP

Tue, 13/10/2009 - 19:56 — admin

When you use Drupal imagefield or filefield module, you'll have noticed that it uses uploadprogress to show a nifty progress bar. This is optional but it's a nice thing to have and it's actually not that difficult to install. Just follow this article: http://smbjorklund.no/how-enable-pecl-uploadprogress-extention-mamp

UPDATE:

Here is the extension that has been precomplied so you can just simply drop it into your folder and activate it. The zip file contains uploadprogress.so and zip.so (so you can use zip extension files).

Download: extension.zip

Unzip the file and place both *.so file into directory: /MAMP/bin/php5/lib/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/

Then add this line:

extension=uploadprogress.so
extension=zip.so

to your php.ini file which can be found at /MAMP/Config/php5/

Make sure you restart your web server.

Recently, there has been a lot of debate in the Drupal community surrounding the questions of "Is Drupal for developers only?" and "How we can get more designers involved?". I was at Belfast Drupal Camp last weekend and what a great event. Big thanks to all the organisers that made it happen and all the wonderful and friendly Drupal users and developers who really made the day special.

Now i'm thinking we should really try and organise our own Drupal Camp in Scotland.

Turn Internet Explorer into Google's Chrome browser

Google

Chrome Frame is a new open-source product from Google that promises to answer web developer dreams. It’s a free plug-in for IE6, IE7 and IE8 that turns Internet Explorer into Google's Chrome browser!

by Craig Buckler

Interesting but will it make a huge change? I don't think so because majority of IE6 or IE7 (don't care for IE8 since this isn't half the trash as previous versions) still around today are installed and is used in big corporations. So the problem is that end-users do not have the privileges to install software on their desktop. Without Chrome, it's useless.

But what a great idea, anything to get rid of IE is always a good thing whether this benefits everyone as a whole or sneaky self-interest from Google.
