Recently, i've had a few requests from design companies asking how they can make Drupal Admin UI feel a little like Wordpress because a lot of their clients have become accustom to using Wordpress admin UI and is comfortable with administering their site with a separation of the front and backend. However, these design companies are trying to move away from Wordpress and offer Drupal as a long term solution. Furthermore, the design companies didn't want me to spend a lot of time customizing Drupal so that the admin UI is a bit more like Wordpress. read more »

About 3 weeks ago, a book arrived at my front door. It was a complimentary copy of 'Drupal 6 Themes' by Ric Shreves from the lovely people at Packt Publishing. This is the second addition to Shreve's other book - Drupal 5 Themes.
At my work, we already bought the first book (Drupal 5 Themes) about 6 months ago so this isn't new to me except this time round Ric Shreves tackles theming in Drupal 6 which has gotten a little easier but still maintains the flexibility and power that Drupal provides.
I had thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning a lot from Drupal 5 Themes. It was always used as a reference guide each time i built a custom theme which was different than previous ones. So it came as no surprise that Drupal 6 Themes book to me was going to be yet another great addition to kick start the learning process of either building from scratch or upgrading a theme. Or was it? read more »
Sorry for the late minor updates to Austere theme (http://drupal.org/project/austere). Still getting my head around using CVS which is annoying though following this guide (http://drupal.org/node/262432) and this http://drupal.org/node/93999 for tagging and branching certainly helped without losing too much hair. This theme is only updated and released for Drupal 6. There wouldn't be a D5 version sorry. It's time to move ahead...
Anyway, I really do hope d.o find a better way (other than CVS) for themers (designers) to contribute. But i guess this is very a difficult issue since CVS is so tied into the project module on d.o or isn't it?

Finally managed to update Austere theme for both Drupal 5 and 6.
It took awhile because i kept messing up the CVS tagging and branching, hence the big jump in the version... yikes! sorry. Really need to get my head around this damn CVS. I should be reading more of the Drupal Handbook.
Anyway, many thanks to Francis Pilon (of Raincity Studios) for cleaning up the code and making it conform more to Drupal coding standards.
